How to choose a tent when you go camping!

When going out camping, sleeping bags and tents are the key equipment for getting a good night's sleep!

Today COVERGENY is going to teach outdoor novices: how to choose a tent!

There are four directions to consider when buying a tent:

1. Capacity

2. Seasonality

3. Weight

4. Comfort

Capacity

Currently, each manufacturer does not have a unified size standard, so the size of the 4-person tent of manufacturer A may be different from that of manufacturer B’s 4-person tent.

According to COVERGENY's experience, usually a tent with n people officially marked can sleep up to n+1 people. Like COVERGENY’s own 2 Person Camping Tent, it can actually accommodate 3 people.

However, if you are equipped with more equipment and camp with dogs, then COVERGENYrecommends choosing a tent according to the official standard!

Seasonality of tents

Like clothes, tents are also available in autumn and winter models. 3-season tent: It can be said that it is the most popular type of tent. The three seasons here refer to spring, summer and autumn. Three-season tents are usually lightweight, portable, waterproof, and resistant to light snow. There are a large number of grid designs to help dissipate heat, and there is usually a larger space for movement overhead.

4 season tent (3-4, 3+ season tent): As the name suggests, the 4 season tent is more resistant to cold weather than the 3 season tent. There are more brackets, but they are relatively heavy. The arc roof design reduces the space inside the tent, but also prevents snow accumulation on the top of the tent.

weight

For RV camping, the weight of the tent may not be so important, but if you want to engage in backpacking friends, carrying a heavy tent will make your travel painful! According to the recommendations of the American REI outdoor product chain, you can choose when Backpacking: tents with an average weight of less than 3 pounds. If you want to take a 4-person backpacking camping trip, you can choose a 4-person tent with a total weight of under 12 pounds.

In this way, when hiking, the tent will not become your heavy burden.

Comfort

Depending on the space in the tent, in addition to the floor area, another comfort index that everyone will overlook is: tent height

According to the height of the tent, there are two types of tents:

Cabin-style tents

Dome-style tents

Cabin-style tents have almost vertical walls, which allow more space in the tent, but as mentioned earlier: it has poor snow and wind protection and heavy weight, but it is very suitable for RV camping.

Dome tents are the opposite. They are small and uncomfortable, but they can withstand strong winds and heavy snow, and are light in weight, suitable for backpacking.

Another factor that affects comfort is the degree of ventilation. If you want to camp in a hot and humid climate, don't forget to choose a tent with a zipper vent in the rainproof layer!

The above is roughly the little knowledge when choosing a tent, here is one thing to add, usually when buying a tent. Most manufacturers will not give away the floor mat under the tent. The floor mat can be waterproof and prevent gravel from damaging the tent, so it can be said to be extremely important. Don't forget to purchase it!
